Breaking: FG increases NYSC allowance

The Federal government of Nigeria has increased the allowance for the Nigerian youth service corps to 30,000 naira monthly

This was disclosed by the minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed on Thursday in Abuja during a press conference where she disclosed that about 694,434 billion naira was ready to be disbursed to states as Paris Club Fund.

According to the Minister of Finance, with the recent minimum wage implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari, corps members will now earn 30,000 naira monthly.

In her words “The Financial implications has been worked out by the presidential committee that was set up and they have submitted their report to the president and the president has directed the report to us.

“We have looked at the report and what we are working on now is how we can finance the new minimum wage.

“Apart from the increase in the minimum wage from 18,000 naira to 30,000 naira, there is also consequential adjustment that we have to negotiate with Labour unions.

“The total financial implications will be determined after the negotiations. The negotiation will also determine what every other staff that is above the new minimum wage will get. It could be a flat amount or a progression.

“The other aspect that should be clear is that there is an increase for the NYSC as well because the NYSC, by it’s Act is designed that they also earn the minimum wage.

“So, NYSC allowance also have to increase to 30,000 naira, I cannot give you projections right now because the negotiations are not yet concluded”, she said in conclusion.
