Just In: President Muhammadu Buhari sworn in for a second term
President Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in at the Eagle Square Abuja, for a second term in office as Nigeria’s President
This was shortly after the Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo took his oath of office.
Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Muhammed Tanko, administered the oath of office to the President, at about 10:45 am.
The Preside swore based on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that as President he would carry out his duties to his best ability, faithfully and in accordance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and always in the interest of sovereignty, prosperity, integrity and well being of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He (the President) also swore that he would protect the fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policies which is contained in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that he would not give room for his personal interest to influence hid official conduct or decisions.
The event was witnessed by families of both the President and Vice President, diplomats, and top government officials.
