Reasons Why I Cannot Pay 30,000 Naira New Minimum Wage – Oyo Gov elect
Oyo State Governor Elect, Seyi Makinde says he cannot pay the 30,000 naira new minimum wage implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari
Seyi Makinde the Oyo Governor Elect, faults the Federal Government for implementing the N30,000 minimum wage into law.
According to him he said he intends to meet with the Nigeria Labour Congress in Oyo State, because the State cannot afford to pay the N30,000 minimum wage.
According to him he said that State Governments would have been allowed to negotiate the new minimum wage with the workers as the living condition varies from State to State.
The Federal Government does not have the right to implement minimum wages for States because Nigeria is a Federation, Makinde said.
In his words “It has been signed into Law as individual States would have been allowed to negotiate the new minimum wage because the living conditions of Lagos is not the same as Ibadan.
Adding to his words ” And I will say without fear or favour that this is the reason why We are thinking of restructuring. This is a Federal System of Government.
Makinde said that the State Government are not subordinate to the Federal Government, they are coordinate Government.
He said he does not think his state can support it.
