The running of the House of Representatives would be no business as usual – Gbajambiamila

Femi Gbajambiamila, the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 9th Assembly, has said that the running of the House, would no longer be business as usual, as he promise to introduce drastic reforms

Gbajambiamila who emerged as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, said in his inaugural speech that He will dish out his reforms in a  piece-mill.

In his words “This is going to be a House of reforms, we will be dishing out this reforms in a piece-mill, it will not be business as usual.

“There comes a time in the life and history of a people, when they interrogate with the past and present, review past sacrifices, miscalculations and errors and collectively decide to opt for change, peace and progress.

“We are at such moment in this country, honourable members of the 9th Assembly this is our time, this is our moment as history beckons.

“The 9th Assembly under my leadership is going to be a House of reforms, the reforms will be dished out piece-mill and at intervals so as not to shock the system.

“Moving forward therefore my colleagues, it will not be business as usual, we will be shaking the table a little, we will be introducing various reforms that will reposition this institution, but please be rest assured that they will be for the greater good.

“The House must be reformed before the country can be reformed,  we cannot and we must not fail”, he said.

Gbajambiamila also made his first appointment of chief of staff.

In his addition ” In this regard and so as to keep the ground running, I am announcing they appointment of Mr Sanusi Rakiji the former speaker of Zamfara state, as my new Chief of Staff.

“Sanusi comes with a wealth of legislative experience and I believe his inclusion in the Assembly will add immense value”, he concluded.

Dignitaries present at the event include; National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomole, Governor of Ekiti State and also chairman of the Nigeria’s Governor’s Forum (NGF), Kayode Fayemi, Bayelsa state Governor, Seriake Dickson,  among others.
